You might find it interesting that Girl Scouts make a distinction between badges, which are earned through acquiring skills and knowledge girls can demonstrate/document, and activity/event patches, which are awarded solely for experience.  Patches go on the back of the vest; they cannot go on the front of the vest or sash.]]></description>
